Ripper Demon/Strategies (2024)

Ripper demons are powerful demons that require a Slayer level of 96 to harm, and are one of the four monsters that make up the "Raptor Mob". They are mostly killed to create ripper demon pouches and the nipper demon pet.

Ripper demons can be found in the Ripper Demon cave and Wilderness, north of the Red Dragon Isle, south of the Mage Arena, the Lava Maze and the Lava Maze Dungeon. The cave has nine demons, six in the first chamber and three in the second. The Red Dragon Isle has fifteen demons in a multi-way combat area. There is a lone demon south of the Mage Arena. The Lava Maze has three demons and the dungeon underneath has five demons, all in a single-way area.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

Ripper Demons are weak to earth spells, demonbane weaponry, and the Demon Slayer perk and ability.

When idle, the Ripper Demon simply wanders around like a normal monster until they attack or are attacked, upon which they root in place unless the player is underneath them. The Ripper Demon uses melee attacks that can deal up to 1,330 damage per hit, but similarly to Nail beasts, can hit 1-3 times per attack. If the player is not within melee range of the Ripper Demon, they will dart into the shadows and use Slaughter. If it is on cooldown, then a normal melee attack is used instead.

Along with these simple attacks, the Ripper Demon also has a special adrenaline bar that fills as it successfully damages the player. When this bar fills, the Ripper Demon has the ability to perform their signature instant-kill attack. The Ripper Demon will leap into the air and disappear, causing the player to lose it as a target. A shadow of the Ripper Demon's position will appear on the ground west of the player's position. If there is no space west of the player, the Ripper Demon's shadow will appear on the next closest western tile possible. This shadow has a visual appearance of a 3x3 area of effect but the area of effect of this attack will hit the player within one tile north or east, and within two tiles south or west of the Ripper Demon. This hit will deal 32,000 hard typeless damage against the player, resulting in an instant kill. When the Ripper Demon lands, the player will automatically reacquire the Ripper Demon as an attackable target, and the Ripper Demon will pause its attacks for two seconds, allowing the player to move safely back into melee distance.

Ripper Demons are also sensitive to the smell of blood: in the Ripper Demon cave, the Ripper Demons are tolerant of the player unless they fall below 35% of their health, after which they become aggressive. While eating up below this threshold will prevent more Ripper Demons from attacking, it is still recommended to teleport out or use Devotion and eat up to avoid getting piled on by multiple Ripper Demons, since they will immediately teleport and use Slaughter. In the Wilderness however, the Ripper Demons are always aggressive regardless of the player's health percentage.

Upon the Ripper Demon's death, it will perform a last-ditch struggle attack. The Ripper Demon will spin uncontrollably on the spot, dealing 950 melee damage per tick for a brief time before collapsing. The area of effect of this attack will damage the player within one tile north or east, and within two tiles south or west of the Ripper Demon. Although drops will be shown upon death, it is best to wait to collect them once the spin animation completes, or use the loot interface. If multiple Ripper Demons are performing their after-death spin attack within range of the player, the player will only receive damage from one Ripper Demon at a time.

Due to one or more updates, this article may be out of date.

Reason: Ripper demons now spec normally in the wilderness after an update. The change was further exacerbated by a nerf to Animate Dead. AFK methods in the wilderness no longer work properly and will result in quick player death.

Ripper demons can be killed in AOE with either Magic or Ranged, both of which are normally not recommended in standard combat. These method allows players to kill ripper demons with ease, with up to 1200 kills per hour using best-in-slot equipment.

Rippers can be AoE'd in both the cave and in the Wilderness. The cave is a bit more manageable for players who are not used to or willing to head into the Wilderness.

A large group of rippers can be found northeast of the Red Dragon Isle. Players have the option of normal AoE or Legacy AoE for this location. When using normal AoE, a cannon is not required but can increase kills per hour as the cannon attracts more demons. Legacy AoE requires the player to use an inquisitor staff and place a cannon. This location has a cluster of lava holes and the player should stand in the centre of this cluster while placing a cannon north of the spot. The cannon will aggro demons, all of whom will teleport and pile on the same tile as all other available tiles are invalid for them to teleport in.

Players are recommended to enter the region where the ripper demons spawn from the West for an easier time on setup.

All the AOE setups deaths usually happens within the first few minutes, particularly in the Wilderness due to immediately aggressive demons in greater numbers. Less experienced players can expect to die at least once when setting up the cannon. However, that usually isn't a big problem, as profits from making Binding contract (ripper demon) will easily recoup any death costs. If the player survives the first few minutes, they should be able to stay there for a long time unless major mistakes were made. Players should also kill the elite Slasher Demon first whenever one appears to prevent it from using its special attack.

A dwarf multicannon with the ability to autoreload is also needed for this method, as the player is not expected to move from the spot unless an instant-kill is imminent. Oldak Coils and Kinetic Cyclones' AoE is too small compared to the cannon, but is safer for those trying the method out for the first time. Magic tank armour is highly recommended for Animate Dead due to the demons' low damage along with Blood Barrage to restore health. Due to the low and numerous damage, armour with the Devoted and Enhanced Devoted perks will also help in significantly reducing damage.

Area looting is also required for this method in order to quickly pick up drops.

Melee is recommended when facing ripper demons at low level due to the melee's lack of AoE abilities; accidentally hitting extra demons is detrimental to the inexperienced and can result in unnecessary damage to the player. While ripper demons are weaker to Magic, the player will likely end up taking Slaughter bleeds if they don't run straight up to the demon first. On-task, an upgraded Darklight, overloads and tier 90+ melee off-hand provides more than enough accuracy and damage. Players should pray Deflect Melee to reduce incoming damage, but can also try to flick Soul Split to prolong trips. Use Devotion whenever available and run away from demons when they reach 0 health.Players should also bring ample amount of Restore flasks to maintain prayer.Players can expect roughly 140 kills per hour with this method.

Magic has slightly higher costs than range but provides far more stability compared to ranged. The player has the ability to pick better magic tank equipment without suffering from accuracy penalties. Cryptbloom armour is not required, but will provide more damage reduction. Players could downgrade to seasinger set or even ganodermic set, but should be more cautious about health management.Legacy Mode should be more than enough to heal off all damage dealt from the demons with Blood Barrage and Animate Dead.

  • Rune pouches to hold runes for Blood Barrage and Animate Dead
  • A Dwarf multicannon and cannonballs to draw aggression
  • Emergency food
  • Can use a staff in place of dual-wield magic for higher damage at the cost of slower rate of fire. Aftershock 3/4 is recommended for its high proc chance and ability to hit all Ripper Demons at once.
  • Gem bag to hold uncut dragonstone drops
  • Contracts to make ripper demon pouches
  • Notepaper to note all unnoted drops

With this setup, players can kill up to 1200 ripper demons per hour.

Ranged is more cost-efficient compared to Magic but players will suffer accuracy bonuses due to mechanised chinchompas being tier 75, which does not work well against the demons' Defence level of 90 and 45 ranged affinity. Try to keep the head, gloves and boots to tier 75 or lower to get some protection without sacrificing too much accuracy.Same with the magic setup, cryptbloom armour pieces can be downgraded to other magic tank armour pieces as necessary.

Melee can be used to AOE the ripper demons, thanks to the dragon halberd special attack. Players should spam the special attack through using an Essence of Finality amulet to continually dish out high AOE damage to the ripper demons in front of the player. Ideally, the special attack should be used whenever there's enough adrenaline for it, without ever building up adrenaline to use ultimate abilities.
