Category: Knowledge and innovation base
A strong AI knowledge and innovation base is of great importance to the Netherlands. An important aspect of this is the connectedness of Dutch researchers worldwide, and especially in Europe. With the XS Europe call, the National Growth Fund AiNed Programme is making a strong contribution to this. This call is for ideas and initiatives that address one or more challenges in sections 3 and 4 of the national AI research agenda AIREA-NL and are designed in collaboration with at least one foreign European collaborative partner organization.
The proposed research is groundbreaking and it is not certain in advance whether the intended objective will be achieved. What matters is that every result, whether positive or negative, advances science. Applications are prepared anonymously, so the assessment is based purely on the research proposal. NWO coordinates the selection process, see NWO's page for more information about the call and conditions.
For whom
Researchers who are professors, lecturers and/or PhDs. may apply if they hold a salaried appointment for at least the duration of the application process and the research for which the grant is sought with one of these organizations.
Planning
There are four application deadlines specified for NGF AiNed XS Europe in 2023-24. The first two deadlines have passed. The next deadline is April 18, 2024 by 2 p.m.

Budget
An application in this call for proposals may request a total maximum of €80,000. The grant ceiling for this call for proposals totals €3,200,000. This amount will be divided equally between four packages of applications, and then divided equally between two groups.
